Hey guys! Thanks to everyone who came by our booth on clubs days! Extra thanks to those who could help keep the booth up and running! Now that clubs days are over, it’s time to hold our yearly ICEBREAKER!
We’re having our ICEBREAKER event on Monday, Sept 26 in room 2504 at 7:15-9:00 (Sorry for the late notice). It’ll be a great opportunity for some of the newer members to meet some of our older members, and also start learning how to play mahjong along with other folks who are new to the game. Or, just play some more mahjong and meet new people if you already know how to play!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Here’s a helpful floor map of the second floor in the nest to help you find what room we’ll be in (Pink room in the bottom right corner)
Hey everyone! Thanks to everyone that came by to say hi at our booth, or even helped teach some new interested people how to play Mahjong!
To all the new people, welcome! Glad to see you’re interested in learning to play, or if you already know how to play, to play some more! Currently we’re not taking registration fees, so just come by and drop in anytime.
You can find us at the NEST, (new student union building (SUB)) in room 3206-B. We’re in the corner of the 3rd floor where the AMS Health Services is. We share a common area with other clubs, and within that big room we have our own separate room which we share with other clubs.
Depending on the day, we’re usually open between 11-5 on weekdays, but don’t be discouraged if you come by and nobody is around, try back later.
If you’re low on free time and want to make sure that there will be people there, try Friday afternoon/evening. There are guaranteed to be people around on Friday nights!
Hello everyone! Hopefully you’ve all had a nice break over the summer and are ready to get back to the books in the new school year. The room has undergone some changes over the summer, and we’re happy to be sharing a space with the wonderful folks in the BrUBC club.
We’re in the process of setting up for Imagine Day, the annual club showcase that runs along the main path through the campus. Come on by from 1pm to 5pm to join in on a few pickup hands of Hong Kong and Japanese Riichi mahjong!
Happy new years and happy family day. I hope all of you had a good chance to reconnect with your family and perhaps have had a few round of mahjong.
The mahjong club had been busy helping out different events around UBC. Here are some photos.
This one is from an event by SSA.
And this was in the NEST.
It is the time of the year, and many student clubs and associations are preparing their special events for the special time.
The Mahjong Club will join some of those!
Asian New Years Festival at NEST on Jan 28th from 6 to 9 pm. This is brought to you by UBC ASIA, UBC JA, UBC CSA, and UBC SSA. Mahjong club will setup tables for you to enjoy! Check out the event page.
- Lunar New Year event by the Equity and Inclusion Office on Feb 5th from 12 to 4 pm. The location will be NEST. Again, MJC will setup tables. Event page.
- An event by UBC SSA on Feb 5th. The location is TBA.
Come to see us!
EDIT: Sorry there was a communication issue. The mahjong club will not participate in the event happening on Jan 28th.
Some of us dug out the old DDR we have and tried it during our usual awesome Friday get together night.
We also changed the layout of the club room. It feels like there is more space now.
I hope everyone had a great holiday. Classes resumed on January 4th, and the Mahjong club is back.
Here is a picture of Netflix and chilling in MJC. SFW
Merry Christmas and happy new year!
The mahjong club wishes you all a happy holiday season!
